Velddrif Mile Swim 9th ANNUAL VELDDRIF MILE, 3KM & FUN SWIM: Saturday 8 November 2024, Port Owen Marina, Velddrif, West Coast, South Africa The 9th Annual Velddrif Mile & 3km Swim event takes place in the picturesque Port Owen Marina, Velddrif West Coast. The event is open to all levels of fitness and a great way for the whole family to get involved. The race is split into 3 different categories: 500m Fun Swim, 1.6km Mile Swim & 3km Swim. The 500m Fun Swim is open to all ages and all levels of fitness. Swimmers for the fun event can dress up for a shot at the prize for Best Spirit on the day. Assisted swimming devices like lilo's, pool noodles are allowed for this leg of the race but no flippers. This fun race is a great way to get the whole family involved. Registration: 8:45 – 9:45am. Race briefing: 9.55am at Port Owen Slipway, 1 Marina Centre, Port Owen. Race will start at 10:10am. This year, this fun part of the event takes centre stage & will start after the two main events have finished. The official Velddrif Mile 1.6km swim is for the more adventurous at heart and swimmers with a bit more stamina & experience in the water. The 3km Advanced Swim is the more serious race and a great training session for all open water swimming enthusiasts. Both categories are open to Skins and Wetsuits. Registration: 6:30 – 7:45am. Race briefing for both these events are at 7:45am at East Basin, Elizabeth East Avenue, Port Owen. Both races will start at 8:15am in the canal. Transport from East Basin to the starting points will be provided, but it is always advised that you have your own back up team to keep your things safe and cheer you on. The end of the race and prize giving will take place at the Port Owen Yacht Club, Bronwen street, Port Owen. Our event always offers fantastic prizes and other exciting lucky draw prizes in between. Cash prizes are up for grabs for each winning category as well as a trophy and each entrant is guaranteed of a medal & a prize for the Best Dressed/Spirit on the day. The prize giving will start at approximately 11:15. GROUP BOOKING DISCOUNTS: A group of 5+ entering together will receive a 10% group discount & groups of 10+ entering together will receive a 20% group discount A variety of local food options will be available for purchase during and after the event. Spectators are most welcome to cheer on the swimmers, but please do not enter private property, boats or jetties along the canal. Make it a family affair and join us for a truly fun event.
