The Piketberg Mountain Bike Challenge

The Piketberg Mountain Bike Challenge is going to be being held on 10 December this year as part of the Summer Festival at the Org de Rac Wine Estate on the outskirts of Piketberg, West Coast. It is one of the first wine farms in South Africa that committed to 100% certified organic wine-farming.
“Org de Rac has made the trails and paths on their wine farm available for the event, which includes a 60 km, 45 km and 20 km mountain bike challenge, and a 5 km fun ride to promote cycling and encourage beginner cyclists, says Mike Tippett, the Manager of The Sports Trust Cycling Development Programme, which is organising the cycling event, in partnership with West Coast Cycling, the Bergrivier Municipality and West Coast Tourism.
Everyone is welcome, and people from far and wide have registered to participate. About 200 cyclists will take part, mainly from the West Coast and Western Cape. Among them are 50 cyclists from the Nedbank Sports Trust Cycling Development Programme, a highly successful initiative, funded by Nedbank since 2005, together with The Sports Trust. The programme supplies bikes and supports the training and participation of over 200 cyclists annually to under resourced high schools in the Boland, Cape Metro (predominantly the Cape Flats) and West Coast.
